The other week, we headed to Suds and Soda for a special evening celebrating the launch of three brand new Shiny beers, each featuring original artwork created by talented students from University of Derby Illustration as part of our 2026 design competition.

This collaboration has been a real highlight for us. We wanted to create an opportunity for emerging creatives to bring their ideas to life on can, responding to three fresh beer names in true Shiny fashion with bold, playful and brilliantly imaginative artwork. The standard of entries was incredible, and choosing winners was no easy task.

The result is three beautiful cans wrapped around three equally lovely beers.

🐝Opt for Nature
4.6% Hazy Pale Ale
Soft haze with bright citrus, mango and a little piney grapefruit, backed by gentle tropical sweetness and a light, easy bitterness. Artwork by Jazmin Jankovics.

🧠Qualifying Questions
6% IPA
Classic IPA punch with grapefruit, pineapple and resinous pine, with a fuller body and a firm, balanced bitterness. Heavily hopped with Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe and Sultana. Artwork by Leon Shoyinka.

🪜No Snakes, Only Ladders
5.2% DDH Hazy Pale Ale
Double dry hopped for big tropical aroma, bringing passionfruit, peach and citrus peel with a touch of dank pine and a soft, juicy finish. Heavily hopped with Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe and Idaho 7. Artwork by Aneeka.

It was brilliant to celebrate alongside the artists, the Derby Uni Illustration team, and plenty of lovely beer drinkers enjoying the finished creations in the wild.

A huge thank you to everyone involved, from the students who poured their creativity into the competition, to the team at Derby Uni for collaborating with us, and to Suds and Soda for hosting such a great evening.

We’re really proud of what came out of this project and we hope it’s the start of more creative collaborations to come.
